Pain in Prison: Assessment and Management in the Correctional Context
Webinar / Online
This webinar examines pain assessment and management through a biopsychosocial framework adapted to correctional nursing practice. Participants will learn a practical, function-focused approach to pain assessment, including strategies for distinguishing chronic pain management needs from acute or condition-specific presentations requiring further evaluation. Feasible interventions for resource-constrained correctional environments will be discussed. CBT-CP principles will be emphasized as a pragmatic approach to helping patients understand pain, improve coping and self-management, and establish realistic functional goals. The overall emphasis is on improving function, safety, dignity, self-efficacy, and patient engagement rather than relying primarily on pain-intensity scores.
